This particular set of short stories will assist in the expansion of a variety of reading skills for the beginning reader and for those students where reading is a challenge, such as directed text review, recall, reading comprehension, and vocabulary development. An emphasis has also been placed on recognizing consonants, vowels (including double vowel sounds), making predictions, and word rhyming.

Along with questions at the end of each story, there is a word list at the beginning, whereby students can practice sounding out and reading additional words similar to the words in the story to develop the recognition of word and phonemic patterns.
